One of the biggest tragedies of extreme poverty is a child's lack of identity and public esteem. But with music, a child can transform into a role model to his peers, community, & parents while also seeking new ways of improving not just in music, but in all areas of life. All of a sudden, he or she becomes a symbol of hope for social and economic improvement within the family & community.
THIS is how music can overcome material poverty, a root cause of human trafficking

While in school in Warsaw, Poland, Chopin was greatly influenced by bel canto singing, which was a very popular music tradition at the time.
The shapes of his melodies often bear a resemblance to operatic arias of Rossini & Bellini, two Italian masters whose work Chopin studied.
Chopin composed nocturnes throughout his career, but this particular piece was published posthumously (after his death in 1849 related to tuberculosis). Op. 72, No. 1 is so special to me because it was his FIRST compositional foray into “nocturnes” at only 17 yrs old (up until then, John Field was the composer known for Nocturnes). Chopin chose never to publish this song during his life because he did not find it worthy of publication. It was a composition that could never satisfy him. I, however, love this Nocturne! It’s one of my favorites, and I’m eternally grateful that it was finally published. 🌻
What are some of your favorite nocturnes?
